For the past few months I've been teaching about the Blood of Jesus Christ at a Christian drug rehabilitation center in southern New Jersey. The teaching is really turning out to be a blessing to most of the people there. It seems there is a need for people to have a greater understanding of what the Blood of Jesus Christ is for.

The Blood of Jesus Christ is the most powerful element in the universe. Anyone who is not a believer would have no understanding of this at all because it involves spiritual understanding which only the Holy Ghost can give. Since a non-believer has no Holy Ghost it will seem like so much foolishness. So you non-believers need to get a life. It is available to you. As a matter of fact let me take just a minute to offer you an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Read the follow scripture out loud:

Romans 10:4 For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

This scripture speaks of righteousness by the law vs. righteousness by faith. The law was passed down to the children of Israel by Moses as he received it from God Himself. But this law imposed ordinances on people that they could not bear or endure. In other words because humanity is not perfect and prone to sin, there needed to be laws that were set up as guidelines for living. And if the Israelites blew it they had to shed the blood of animals to cover the sin. This is what God’s law said. But it was an imperfect system and did not work. But God had a better plan. The whole issue is how do we deal with sin? The wages of sin is death. Every man or woman will sin. No matter how good you may think you are, you will sin at various times in your life. Christians sin, non-Christians sin, the Pope sins, pastors sin, murderers, thieves and rapist sin. In this there is no difference between persons.

The last thing that we would ever want to do is die in sin and spend an eternity in Hell. So God set up a way out. A way for us not to suffer the effects of sin. In the Old testament the imperfect system of sacrificing animals and using the blood as a cleansing agent was used to cover sin. If the wages of sin is death, than something had to die to cover the sin. Animals were used for this purpose. God says the life is in the blood. And it could be used for an atonement for sin. But killing millions of animals over thousands of years was not the final plan of God. He had something better in mind. Something perfect. Something that would totally eliminate the sin and all of its effects. But the law was imperfect that Moses passed down. Then there were the ordinances that had to be adhered to. Don’t do this, don’t do that. Circumcision was one of the required ordinances that had to be carried out. A male child had to be circumcised by a certain age or be condemned. There were many requirements under the law.

The law of Moses brought about righteousness by the law. The righteousness by faith does away with righteousness by the law in every respect. Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. What that means is that whoever believes in Jesus Christ and confesses it with his mouth and believes in Him in his heart he is saved. Sounds simple right? It was meant to be simple. There is nothing that you have to do to be saved from eternal damnation but believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. So if you want to be saved right here and now just repeat these words:

Lord I am a sinner. I want to be saved from all of the sin I have committed in my life. I repent of everything that has been a breach against your law. I turn away from sin. I thank you for the perfect Blood of the Son of God Jesus Christ that washes away my sin. I ask that you accept me into your divine kingdom and be my Father for all of eternity. Please forgive my sin. Teach me how to live and worship you all the days of my life. Thank you Father for making me one of your own. Amen.

Now you have been accepted into God’s kingdom. There are some people who will tell you that you have to do things in order to be saved. They are liars. Even if they profess to be Christian. There are those in the church who do not understand salvation and that we are saved by grace and not by anything that we do. Not by praying, witnessing, singing on the choir, pastoring a church, working on the mission field, or any seemingly religious activity. It is not what we do that saves us. We are totally incapable of removing the sin and its effects from our lives. All of the above activities are good ones, and I encourage people to take part in each of them if they are called. But those things will not bring you salvation. Only belief in Jesus Christ will save you. It is what He did that saves, not what we do. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice and when He died on the cross and rose from the dead He finalized everything that could work against us because of sin. It is done by His Blood.

So now that you are a son or daughter of God you need to know all of the benefits we have because of the Blood of Jesus Christ.

1. Cleansing from sin by the Blood

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

2. Justification available by the Blood. We are justified. Just as if we had never sinned. If we sin at some point in the future it does NOT mean that we are no longer saved. It means we must repent from our sin, ask for forgiveness and not return to repetitive cycles of sinning. The Blood of Jesus is a perfect offering once and for all for sin.

Romans 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Because of the Blood we will not go through the tribulation. We are saved from wrath.

3. Redemption through the Blood

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

When I first became a Christian I attended a church in West Philadelphia. One morning I went to a Sunday school class and was given an example of what salvation is like in a story about a Christian man. This man goes to work one day and finds out that he has been laid off from the job. He is so despondent that he leaves his former job and goes to a bar just to get one drink. But one drink leads to many drinks and he ends up getting stone drunk. He heads for the door to leave the bar. Goes out the door to get to his car. He is parked on the other side of the street and steps off the curb to get to his car. As soon as he steps into the street a bus hits him and kills him. Does he go to heaven or hell? I got the answer wrong 18 years ago as a new Christian. I sent that man to Hell. But I was wrong. He was a believer in Jesus Christ. And once you are saved you are always saved unless you totally renounce your faith and serve Satan. Some will say if you do renounce Jesus Christ, you were never saved in the first place. I think only God knows the answer to that one.

4. Reconciliation through the Blood

Romans 3:25 Whom God set forth [as] a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed.

5. Peace with God through the Blood.

Colossians 1:20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross..
